First, let’s congratulate Key Club for raising $300 for UNICEF!  The money that was raised by the Key Club members will be for the children in Africa.

Coming up this week is the making of fleece scarves for the homeless in Seattle.  Last year, Evergreen Key Club was recognized for their assidous work and was featured on The West Seattle Herald.  Our goal this year is to complete more than a hundred scarves for the Seattle’s Mission Gospel.  Let’s give Key Club our luck for their youth venture to “kill the chill”.

What I have posted below are the volunteer opportunites for those who are eager to help their community:

  • White Center Food Bank – November 12th, Wednesday, 5:00 – 7:30 pm
  • March of Dimes – November 10th – 15th, Donate to your small school office to help benefit premature babies
  • Evergreen High School’s Annual Book Fair – December 2nd – 19th, Volunteer as Clifford or as Sales Helpers

Happy 2nd Semester Key Clubbers!

I hope you are enjoying your new classes or if none of them changed, happy that you only have 1 semester left.  Seniors, as of today, you only have 80 more days left until you’re officially out of here.  A new semester means new beginnings and opportunities.  Here’s what’s beginning in Key Club this month:

+Convention! The annual district convention is coming up this April with the theme of “Service in the Stars”.  This year it will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Sea-Tac on April 11-13, 2008.  Those interested must keep in mind that you must have a minimum of 40 logged volunteer hours.  Clubbers will only have to pay $50 since the club and our sponsoring Kiwanis Club will covering part of the cost.  Get your applications from Mrs. Morris and turn everything in by Monday February 11 to the bookkeeper.  (Not the officers or Mrs. Morris)

+A few weeks ago, about 90 scarves were made for our Youth Venture.  We are in the process of tagging and putting the finishing touches on them.   On February 18 or 19 we will be distributing the scarves to a local homeless shelter or organization.  Be sure to be there!  We might help with serving food or volunteering with the organization.  In addition the press from Youth Venture will be there to capture us in action.  (Photographers and cameras!)  Don’t miss out!

+Volunteer for the Evergreen book fair from February 6 to 14.  Talk to Uyen for more information and to sign up.  Support your school’s library by buying a book or two.

+Also, remember the White Center Food Bank needs volunteers to help with sorting and distribution every other Wednesday from 5:30-8:00.

2008-2009 Officers

Congrats to the newly elected officers.  They will be shadowing the current officers until after convention when they’ll be officially installed at a Kiwanis meeting.  Again, congrats!
